Our Story

In 1980, while living in upstate New York, Dorothy Mehlenbacher developed a simple, artisan taffy and began selling it at local street fairs. As her candy became more popular, Ms. Mehlenbacher began to experiment with new packaging and labels, developing the taffy stick we continue to sell today. She eventually expanded her business from the street fairs to local wholesalers and retailers.
In 2007, the Himelson family purchased the taffy business and moved it to California. We are proud to continue the same handcrafted traditions that have always made Mehlenbacher’s Taffy successful. Over the years, we have created delicious new flavors like Root Beer Float and Caramel Apple that taste like you’re eating the real thing. Our taffy continues to be sold in general stores and gift shops across the USA, as well as directly to customers on this website. We have also been featured in magazines such as Martha Stewart Weddings, Town and Country, and 805 Living.
